    Description

Located on the shores of the Missouri River just above Fort Randall Dam, North Point Recreation Area provides a spectacular river view. Lewis and Clark came up the river in late-August, early-September in 1804. In this area, they saw their first prairie dogs, which they called "barking squirrels." They were also told to watch for an infrequent phenomenon called "burning bluffs," where the shale ignites and smokes.

Modern-day visitors can follow in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark and explore the area. If you'd like to stay overnight at North Point Recreation Area, the first step is reserve a campsite or camping cabin. The online reservation system is fast and easy-to-use. All campsites have electric hookups, with access to a dump station and restrooms equipped with flush toilets and showers. Cabins, open year-round, have a set of bunk beds and a double bed to accommodate four people. Sleep comfortably with air-conditioning and heating. Although cooking is not allowed indoors, a picnic table and fire grate give you outdoor options.

From the beach, cool off in the water, or see if the fish--walleye, northern pike, bass, crappie and catfish--are biting. Bike or hike on the North Point trail. It's rated easy, with a few moderate grades. Checkout a game for fun and bring a picnic. You'll find a floating fuel dock and convenience store at The Fort Randall Marina onsite at North Point Recreation Area.

    Great place

We have been coming her for more than 20 years and every year we find something new or see a wonderful improvement! Even with all the flooding the staff has kept up the park nicely and done a great job! I hope other families enjoy their quiet time at the park!

    1st stay

Even though part of the park was flooded the camp mgr accommodated us to a different spot so we could park earlier than check in. It was beautiful and will return next year with our family.

    Sideways rain

Great facility, clean bathrooms, However we got caught in a 88mph rain storm and we were in a tent! I have been in other camp grounds that alert tenters of bad weather so they can take cover!
