Angostura Reservoir in the Angostura Recreation Area is a water-lover's haven with breathtaking scenic views. Offering crystal clear waters, 36 miles of shoreline, and some of the finest sandy beaches in the state, the area boasts many water sports and summer fun activities - camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Make plans to stay at one the campgrounds, at a campsite or cabin, by using the online reservation system. Each campsite at Angostura Recreation Area has a gravel or paved camping pad, a fire grate and picnic table, and flush toilets and showers are installed. Electric hookups are available at the majority of the campsites. One-room, log-style cabins are found in all four Angostura campgrounds and overlook the reservoir. Each cabin has heating, air conditioning, electricity and a porch. Furnishings include a bunk bed, a double bed, table and benches.

Look for walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bluegill in Angostura, one of the few large reservoirs in western South Dakota. To help you manage your catch, there is a fishing dock, boat ramp, fish cleaning station and fishing pole checkout. Rent a canoe or kayak to glide along the lake and take in the sights. Among the other amenities at Angostura Recreations Area are a marina, picnic shelter, playground and visitor center.

Angostura Recreation Area hosts an array of interpretive and educational activities during the summer season. Each program is geared for families with young children and will expose participants to the various natural and cultural features of the Southern Black Hills. A geocache scavenger hunt takes place every year. The hunt begins on April 1 and ends on October 31. Participants who successfully answer the treasure hunt questions are entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes.

    4th of July Holiday Stay

Overall out stay @ Horsehead Campground was great. We love that the sites are a little more spread out so you have more privacy & it is great for social distancing! Our only complaint would be that on one of the days we had some severe weather roll in and the weather sirens sounds 3 times in our campground and not once did the campground host come around to let us know what was going on. We have stayed at other State parks in South Dakota and have always been notified by the campground host if there was an issue with the weather

    Popup camper explore

July 4 weekend was beautiful. Camp host at Cascade campground was super nice ,very accommodating lady. Campgrounds are very nicely maintained. I am a girl that camps by herself a lot, I felt very safe. Witch is why I keep coming back. Game fishing parks Ranger and sheriffs department drive through campgrounds quite often. The Marina attendance is very Accommodating. The only thang I would recommend doing is putting more soap containers in the bathrooms,

    Very Enjoyable

We used picnic shelter 3 for the 4th of July. The park was very busy as expected. This picnic shelter is very nice for a family gathering. Close to the water with a volleyball net close by. We had a great time. The staff we came in contact with was very friendly and helpful. We will be using this again!

Cool down for a fool down

Very nice lake with nice people. We had an excellent ebike ride, the restrooms are well kept, and the facilities are nice. One simple minded dolt had to have a loud obnoxious power boat which should have been chased off the lake. We went in for a swim and the water was warm and clean. We stop at the lake on a way to and from Arizona and always enjoy our stay. Nice hiking, biking, and scenery. Also in a good location for those going north and south. We usually just stay overnight. There were some Trump Flags in the towns nearby which was disturbing, but hopefully that will clear up in the fall.
