Water-lovers enjoy fishing, boating, or just watching the waves at Cow Creek Recreation Area. Both primitive shoreline camping and campground camping are available. The shoreline sites offer outstanding views of Oahe Reservoir while providing a great deal of privacy. Campsites in the campground have easy access to drinking water and restrooms/showers and can be booked in advance. Two camping cabins are also available. Making a reservation is a quick process, using the online system.

Camping cabins at Cow Creek Recreation Area accommodate four people in the one-room space with a set of bunk beds, double bed, table and benches. Heating, air conditioning and electricity provide for year-round comfort. Cabins do not have restrooms, running water or kitchens. A porch, picnic table and fire grate allow for pleasant outdoor dining while enjoying the scenic surroundings. Park amenities include a boat ramp and picnic shelter. Anglers landing walleye, sauger, northern pike, channel catfish, trout and bass can prepare their catch in the fish-cleaning station.

Lake Oahe Reservoir, located on the Missouri River, provides hours of outdoor fun. The lake has more than 2,000 miles of shoreline and its clear waters are ideal for boating, sailing, fishing, water skiing and diving. Campers, history buffs, mountain bikers and hikers will find new adventures in this rugged land first explored by Lewis and Clark. For trips outside the park, Pierre is the closest city. The state's Capitol is open every day to view the murals, stained glass and artwork. Other points of interest: Oahe Dam Visitor Center, South Dakota Discovery Center, the Lewis and Clark Family Center and the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center.

This was third time camping here. Upon arrival noticed several items of garbage laying around such as plastic bottles and cups, toy cars left, a brick, etc. Also several fire pits not cleaned out. Ours had a pile of cigarette butts in it. Didn’t see any of this first two times. Bathhouse was very clean every time we’ve come.

I rented a cabin August 28 2020. The cabin had not been cleaned since the last renters. You couldn’t walk on the floor without shoes. The garbage was half full. Their was a bottle of half drank water under the bed. Half the light bulbs were missing and the outside power outlets didn’t work. And garbage all over the yard. Someone put fourth zero effort doing their job. Plus $58.00 for rent. Prices are getting ridiculous SDGF&P.

    A bit expensive

Thought $20 a night was reasonable but add on the $8 fee for online booking still ok. But then we found out we had to pay an additional $8 for "entrance " fee!! Now that is total BS! Anywhere but SD the day use Is separate from camping. We feel the entrance fee on top of the camping fee is excessive.
