Description

Rocky Point Recreation Area is located on the 8,000-acre Belle Fourche Reservoir. The reservoir was created in 1911, when Orman Dam was constructed to store water for agricultural use. At the time of its completion, Orman Dam was the largest earthen dam in the world. In 1989, Orman Dam was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Glide along the water in a kayak or canoe, fish and take a boat out on the water when you camp overnight. Rocky Point Recreation Area offers sites with or without electricity and cozy one-bedroom cabins in scenic locations. Book your reservation quickly and easily using the online system. Cabins are built for four people and furnished with a double bed, set of bunk beds, heating, air conditioning and electricity. Cooking is not permitted inside, but an outdoor fire grate and picnic table are provided.

Fishing is a popular activity at Rocky Point Recreation Area, and a boat ramp, fish-cleaning station and fishing pole checkout are provided. Species found in the reservoir are walleye, yellow perch, channel catfish, black crappie, smallmouth bass, white bass and tigermuskie. A canoe or kayak can be rented and games borrowed for use at the park. If you're in the mood for a good hike, visit the George S. Mickelson Trail, in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills. Its gentle slopes and easy access allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty of the area.

I've reviewed before, so I'll keep this short. Rocky Point is a very well maintained campground, with great resources. A fantastic value that we go back to as often as we can find open sites!

Beautiful campground on a huge man made lake. Campground was well kept and quiet. Be careful where you book your camping. Some campgrounds are right by busy freeways or rail road tracks. This one is not. The only area of improvement would be the bathrooms / showers. There are no towels for drying your hands in the bathroom and the showers had very low water pressure and ran out of hot water. Overall a nice place.

We just got done camping at Rocky point campground. The only access to the lake was at the boat ramp. When you have kayaks it would be nice to launch somewhere besides a motorized busy boat launch area. All other access to the lake was block off and locked. With the lake being low it made the lake almost unusable to any craft other than motor boats. Another thing I noticed during our stay was lack of garbage cans. You need to take quite a walk from most sites to find a garbage dumpster.

the shower did not have hot water in the shower. n Also even with the dog on a leash you were not allowed. Other wise very clean and well groomed. Secure even during Sturgis.
