Away from it all- off season

We were stopping en route to our home for the winter and it was our family on the west side of Gavin’s point and one other RV family on the east side of Gavin’s point. We basically had the place all to ourselves in late October! In July the hundreds of campsites are packed! We emptied our RV tanks and rinsed them at the front dump site near the welcome center and winterized it, after making sure the bathroom closest to us would still be open. The comfort stations, whether you stay in July or October, are always spotless! The workers were trimming trees and taking down weakened ones as they prepared for winter. This is in my opinion the #1 SD recreation area!! The property is well cared for and each site has fire pit, picnic table, and grassy area - and tons of trees!!

Bad Time to Clean

We love camping at Lewis & Clark Gavin's section and find the campground & bathhouses hard to beat. We actually pull our camper to Yankton in May and spend our 4 weeks vacation at Gavin's throughout the summer. Normally all the staff is very friendly and we don't have any issues. Our most recent trip in October 2017, I was very disappointed with the cleaning woman. We were camping during a cold windy October week and the cleaning lady decided it was acceptable to open the door to the bath house and start cleaning when I'm in the shower letting all the cold air in. In addition to this she was spraying the cleaning chemicals around me as I'm trying to comb my hair. I felt she could have waiting another 10-15 minutes before starting her cleaning routine. This isn't the first time they have opened the doors when I've been in the shower but considering how cold and windy it was it was very rude. She also never spoke and gave me the impression I was in her way. Normally the cleaning women are very friendly and I've not found it an issue. Despite this we will continue to spend our vacations at Lewis & Clark.

Great family camping experience

We stayed in the Gavin's Point section along the shore line. Our family loved the views, the spacious sites, and the proximity to the play ground. The cool weather and beautiful fall colors made for a great trip. This is definitely one of our favorite vacation spots.

Camping with Others

It is really nice to camp in one of the circles when you are camping with a group. You are all close to each other; which makes it easy to gather for meals and campfires. The park is very beautiful and the walking/bicycle path is great!

Always a memorable visit

We visit Lewis & Clark a minimum of 2 campouts each season. There's a reason for that...

Beautiful views

Food for the soul. Just relax and enjoy the views. Sail boats floating by, and power boats zooming along. Take a hike or ride a bike. It's all easy.

Magnificent

The park and campground is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate. The staff is helpful and friendly. The bike paths are delightful and the Marina is a plus. The restaurant in the marina serves great food at a fair price. Our last day we were visited by deer and on our way out a gaggle of wild turkeys bid us adieu. We will be back!!!! Awesome!!!!
